As a result of the explosive growth of the telecommunication industry, there is increasing federal, state, and local oversight of the industry.

Local permitting and zoning rules vary widely. In some jurisdictions, plans to install telecommunications equipment must be reviewed and approved by the appropriate land planning or zoning agency. In some cases, regulations issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and other local and federal agencies must be addressed.
